Masterclass overview :

Elbow injuries are often seen in clinic. But what is the best way to get
your patients back to full function following overload or trauma to the
elbow? This 2 day masterclass reviews the evidence for assessment
and treatment of commonly encountered elbow conditions and sets your
patients on the right road to recovery!. The masterclass format will
include case studies, group discussion and interactive quizzes, to allow
comprehensive discussion between tutor and delegates.

Biography
Val Jones is a Physiotherapy Specialist working at the Sheffield Shoulder and Elbow
Unit and also works in private practice. She lectures internationally about the
assessment and rehabilitation of the elbow joint. Val has published in peer reviewed
journals and is a previous AHP representative on the British Elbow and Shoulder
Society Council, as well as being the current UK national delegate and President of
EUSSER (European Society of Shoulder & Elbow Rehabilitation). She has organised
and presented upon the highly successful Sheffield Elbow course for Physiotherapists
and has previously been awarded a prestigious Copeland Fellowship from the British
Elbow and Shoulder Society, travelling to Cape Town.

Course aims :
At the end of this course students will be able to:
● Locate and discuss appropriate elbow anatomy and pathology,
● Perform a comprehensive elbow evaluation to determine the cause of dysfunction
● Select appropriate special tests to evaluate the elbow complex, including
recognition of serious pathology e.g. osteo-chondral defects
● Discuss evidence-based treatments for conservative care of a variety of elbow
conditions, including:
 Tennis elbow

 Management of the post-traumatic elbow, including prevention of stiffness
 Elbow instability
 Osteoarthritis
 Ulnar nerve entrapment
 Olecranon bursa
● Understand the precautions and rehab guidance post surgery i.e. distal biceps
rupture, ligament reconstruction, elbow replacement
